❚❚❚❚❚ IC.
■ PHYSICAL AFFECTION:

Maya is a physical person with little sense of personal space or boundaries — physical affection such as hugs, hand holding or other friendly touching will go down perfectly well with her, even if she doesn't know the other character well. The same goes for kissing or anything more intimate: the chances are Maya will reciprocate with little thought.

■ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE:

Your character is welcome to attack Maya, but anything that may result in injuries more serious than minor cuts or bruises needs to be run by me first. She is liable not to fight back and is more likely to focus on defending and trying to get herself out of the situation; she will resort to violence only if she feels cornered or if another person is at risk.

■ RELATIONSHIPS:

Maya does not experience romantic love. It is possible that she may agree to becoming someone's "girlfriend" or partner without understanding the extent of what that means, but it will become apparent sooner or later that she doesn't know what being in a relationship entails.

■ MENTAL INFORMATION:

Maya's head is crammed with many rambling snippets of thought happening at the same time, which drown out any internal monologue. Any internal monologue that does exist is short and disconnected, never seeming to go anywhere or develop into fully formed thought. The inside of her head is a rambling mess, so good luck with that.

Characters who try to read Maya's mind may also be able to detect (or suffer interference from) messages coming from the more octopus-y parts of Maya's brain that dictate her behaviour based on hardwired animal instinct. There are specific circumstances when said drives override Maya's human autonomy and her behaviour becomes animalistic, which is detectable through mind reading.

■ MEDICAL INFORMATION:

Maya is surprisingly robust when it comes to avoiding becoming ill; hardy like an octopus, she has a fierce immune system and fights off illness very quickly. Her injuries also heal at a slightly accelerated rate compared to the average human's. However, being a hybrid brings her certain disadvantages.

Maya has to take a number of vitamin supplements to make up for the nutrients that she is unable to gain from food. Fish and meat are the only foodstuff she can eat in large amounts without becoming sick. She can tolerate other food groups in smaller quantities she cannot consume enough to gain the complete nutrition her body needs.

The biggest threat to Maya's health and wellbeing is heat. Maya cannot sweat, meaning that there is no way for her body to regulate its temperature or expel salts. The fact that Maya produces only a tiny amount of body heat means that she is able to stave off overheating for longer than if she had the same body temperature as the average human, but heat is incredibly dangerous for her and she is susceptible to heat induced illness such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke, the latter of which could be fatal. She protects herself by carrying water when it is available to her and staying in the shade, but extended exposure to hot climates can be rough on her.

It is also within Maya's instinct to observe a nocturnal sleeping schedule. Years of routine mean she's accustomed to sleeping through the night like most people, but if she becomes ill, stressed, or otherwise distracted, her nocturnal instincts can take over. She becomes very tired and prone to sleeping at odd intervals during the day, while being unable to sleep at night. Since she cannot sleep properly during the night or the day, she becomes exhausted and her health, mood, and ability to function will take a hit as a result if she remains trapped in a cycle of not sleeping for an extended period.

■ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS:

Maya is very easily upset or angered by comments that undermine the personhood of her fellow hybrids (or any other person who isn't your average human). She can become tetchy and hostile should the subject be breached even innocuously within conversation, and seeing another person face discrimination will fling her into a rage of righteous anger.
