Over 100 years before her birth, the government of Maya's home country undertook a greatly unethical scientific challenge to create superhuman military personnel using genetic splicing techniques. A descendent of one of the subjects of those same failed tests, Maya lives in a world where hybrids and ordinary people live side by side, if not always harmoniously or with ease. When years of having her tentacles pulled and her personal space invaded forced Maya to turn the tables on her overly curious non-hybrid peers who had made her pre-schooling days miserable, the already inquisitive Maya discovered something. Be they human or hybrid, bodies are hella interesting. With this increasingly obsessive fascination, Maya swore to one day study to become a doctor. The fact that she may one day be able to relieve a situation in which hybrids like herself find it difficult to find adequate medical treatment is undoubtedly important to her — but it would delight all three of her hearts just to spend the rest of her life cracking open chest cavities.  |
